Environmental Responsibility

Recycling is definitely a communal effort. We’d like to give credit to the companies who help us “go green.” Here’s who they are …and what they do:

Univar Recycling Corporation
We look to Univar to remove solid and liquid waste from our facility. It takes away Waste Oil, Waste Ink, Blanket Wash and Absorbent Sox, all of which are reconstituted as a fuel for energy production. Approximately 175 fluorescent light bulbs per year are also collected and shipped to reprocessing plants, where they’re disassembled. Parts are then recycled for other uses, including mercury, which is re-used in the manufacturing of more fluorescent light bulbs.

Midwest Fiber
Midwest Fiber handles the removal and recycling of our aluminum plates and paper. Approximately 66,000 plates per year are shredded, melted into ingots and re-used in the manufacturing industry.

Midwest Fiber
We truck away an average of 2000 tons of paper per year, all to be recycled. Every year, that saves an average of 38,000 trees.

In addition…
Vegetable inks aid tremendously in our recycling efforts. In the de-inking process, they can be removed more easily from paper than other inks, and therefore are less damaging on the fibers of recycled paper. The stability of vegetable inks also creates less waste: Press operators make fewer adjustments, lessening the amount of copies that have to be discarded due to inferior quality.
